’91 V6 carbureted swap sans computer
Hey guys. This is my first post after reading so many since buying my '91 Ranger XLT.
I would like to know what carbureted V6 engines will bolt in to the stock 5sp standard tranny in my '91.
I would like to ditch the whole computer and EFI system and go old school. I'm not new to working on engines, or rewiring. I've built the Vulcan V6 I have now from the block up myself as well.
What are my best options?
Thanks in advance!
Bob

Welcome to the forum
If you have a 3.0l Vulcan in there now then that transmission will only fit on the 3.0l Vulcan.
So............
You can get a carb intake from Morana racing: Tom Morana Racing Engines
But expensive and then you still have the distributor to deal with, it needs computer control as well.
I think the MSD 6AL system will work with TFI system, to eliminate computer
In my opinion you would be better off pulling engine and trans and go with 302(5.0l) V8 and transmission
They were carbureted and used vacuum advance distributors for many many years so more options than you can count
As far as Ford V6s you are pretty much looking at the 2.8l and it was no power house, and of course a transmission for it.
EFI and computer control is one of the best upgrades engines ever got.
I am old school, grew up with carbs and points.
Give me EFI and "distributorless" engines any day
Much much easier to work on, but more to the point you almost never have to work on them, lol, which is why I like them more.
I like wrenching when I want to wrench, not when I have to wrench
