Aren't we essentially paying ourselves? How does that put is in more or less of a hole? and in a hole relative to who/what country?

not really.

I'm paying for a million other Americans to get a new car.. F*CK that. and if we we've been paying ourselves with all this government spending why are we trillions in the hole? doesn't seem to be working.

hey, now that the government is in the car biz (general motors... or GOVERNMENT motors), they need to boost their sales and this is one way that works, kinda. At least thats my theory.

Those of us with decent jobs are essentially paying for this, so that (mostly) people without much money can buy near cars. If the #1 car to be purchased with this is the ford focus (from what I hear), obviously it is mostly people buying low end econoboxes that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford a new car.

Don't worry, I agree that I'm not a fan of paying for other people (socialism, I know), but when you say "we", that makes it sound like you're talking about the country as a whole. That was my point, people speaking in generalities about things "costing" but not specifying exactly who its costed and exactly who benefits. That's one thing that really makes all of this political/economic crap seem so confusing IMO.

And of course we're borrowing tons from China and tightening their grip on our *****. But that may or may not have anything to do with the CARS program itself (I personally don't know if we borrowed anything from China to use for the CARS program or if its simply a matter of redistributing the wealth that we already have over here).

Don't worry, I know this, but it sounded like everybody saying "we" meant the country as a whole. That was essentially my point. Unless of course we borrowed money from another country (China) to fund this, but I wasn't sure whether or not that's the case for this specific program which is why I asked. I probably should've been more clear about what I meant.
