they cover the gap that can be seen inside the fender-wells. most noticeable in the rear fender-well between the bed and frame.

For the rear, definitely make your own. When I had my BL'ed Ranger, I made my rear ones. Get some 26-28G sheet metal and have it cut to length. Then take and bend it at and angle so that it goes from the lip on the bed, to the chassis. Then screw it down with some self tappers. Just make sure on the driver's side you drill at the right spot, as the fuel line runs down this side of the chassis. I primed mine and sprayed it with rubberized undercoating, by far the best looking in my opinion. I don't have any close up pictures, but it looked like it was made with the truck.

Go to homedepot and get some stair runner material gonna cost you like $20 max..
the stuff i got was to wide so i sliced it inhalf and put it on.. using self tapping sheet screws into the pinch weld seam.. just dont put a screw in a spot weld..
use the BACK SIDE of the rubber the not ribbed side...
this is what the side you wanna hide looks like
you dont need anything on the front the stockers take care of it...
here my truck from the side they work great
