Are they worth it in terms of helping you get up a steep hill or getting unstuck?

They are definately worth it. I usually go wheelin' with rigs way more capable than I am, so i have to use their winch as a tug line sometimes. But I really want one. 9.5ti Warn.....overkill for my little ranger, yes.

If you don't off road much....don't bother. If you do it alot, like I do, then it's close to a must if you go out alone w/o an assist rig.

See avatar.

You bet! Invaluable in my opinion. I wouldn't go anywhere challenging without one these days.

Once you've had one, you'll never want to be without one.

lol.. i was going to say its illegal to have wench's ride on your front bumper... plus its dangerous too, no matter how much they deserve it.

Mine's not a permanent mount but I have one that I can use in my front/rear hitches. I've used it more to pull others out and dragging fallen trees out of my way than I've had to use it getting myself unstuck. I suspect this will change once I move to the PDX area.

As other's have said, it's an invaluable tool.

All you need is a front receiver and then just get a winch basket for it. Bolts on and then you can take it off the front and put it on the rear if need be.
