I'll be down there the 12th-14th, feel free to come and hang out. We're camping at Oregon Inlet but I'll probably be up at Corolla at some point during the weekend.

jeez i was there saturday and the sand at corolla was the worst ive ever seen it, well it was like the way it is in august when it gets really really soft, i just parked all day and watched people get stuck and lended a hand a few times to the torists that dont know what they are doing, funny stuff

back on topic i was a huge believer and not needing to air down, did it for the first time this weekend and its a night and day difference, went down to about 20psi so i could drive down the road alittle ways to the pump, i will never not air down again, besides that nc beaches are easy and there is no need to use low range or a lower gear, if it gets very soft than maybe but no need really.......

Be carful man that 1fiddy is a hell of a lot heavier than a ranger.

For anyone driving on the beach (soft sand) Take a couple short 2x4's and a shovel. You ever get stuck and you'll be able to get yourself out. Been there don't that. But had to use some old pallets, hey it's all we could find.

My Ranger on the 36's had a hell of a time in 4hi so I ran 4lo the whole time we were down in obx. Just seemed like I wasn't beating on it so bad.

Speed kills! Don't haul butt on soft sand with stock tires it will get you stuck so much worse.

I did this everyday, but you need to atleast do it when you get home. Wash the crap out of your under carriage. Sand gets everywhere and the salt will eat your truck up.

Guys with 20's or chrome rims... put a fresh coat of wax on them before you go out and it will protect them from the sand and salt.

Your 4wd ranger is going to weigh 4600 lbs with you and all your gear in it.. thats ALOT of weight for 4 small stock tires on sand.... its all about how wide your tires are to how much you weigh.. thats why a small 2wd pickup is so much better, they weigh 1200 lbs less

I'm not too worried about getting stuck, a buddy is coming with me and he can pull me out if I do.

Go to Corolla for your first outing. Get used to the feeling of driving on sand. Then if you like it, go on to Oregon Inlet or Cape Hatteras.

If I have the week/weekend off when you go, I'll come down and pull you out if needed. Be advised, i WILL post pictures for others to laugh.

Exact thing I do when I cruise Pismo beach in Cali....and that can be some thick soft sand that's all torn up from the 1 ton trucks with toy haulers!
