Okay bought me a fuel filter, its a microguard from O'reilleys. Its a lot smaller in diameter than the stock one, but supposed to be the right one, it has the correct connections though?? Anybody know if its the right one?

It may work. But the correct one should be identical.

does it plug into your stock lines?

My brotha' installs fuel filters, not sure on brand, but they are metal housing where as stock is plastic. So i guess differences occur.....fuel filter is a fuel filter, bolt that **** up, son!

Yes it has the correct connections. But its half the size (in diameter), I think it should be the same size.. I may try it tommorrow.

Does 02 use the special tool? i have it anyways, guess I'll just check

The fuel filter tool use varies on each model of each year. Some years require the tool and others do not. My 01 Edge does not require the tool, but I've had arguments with guys with 01 XLT's saying that they need the tool. Easy way to tell is use your thumb to pry the hoses off. If they do not come off with barely any force, you'll need the tool.

As for the filter you have, I don't know. I replaced my metal stock filter with a black plastic UAP/NAPA filter. It was the same size, just black plastic instead of metal. Another reason why I don't go to any other part stores, the staff are retarded. UAP/NAPA guys know their stuff.
