I've got a leaking fuel tank...
So I'll be making a trip out to the bone yard this week to find a replacement.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what model years I can look for that have the same fuel tank as my 91.
Also, I'm not sure if it's a 17 or a 20 gallon, any way to tell for sure? My wife drives it mostly and she's never filled it to the top, especially now that it won't hold any more than 4 or 5 gallons without leaking.
Any help is appreciated. It's a 91 regular cab, 2WD, 2.3L I4.

It's so hard to tell what size of gas tank you have without actually looking at it because Rangers come with some many different sizes. For instance, I have a 92 with a 21 gallon tank, but my friend has a 89 with a 15 gallon tank.
However, I just did read a little thing that is interesting. Apparently, in 91, there was a re call on the gas tanks because they cracked.
Also, I just read that the 91 Explorers only came with the 19.3 Maybe that's the tank you have?
*EDIT*

Although I don't totally agree because I have run my truck to almost dry and have put 20.7 gallons in mine.

Thanks for the info..
Though I just got an idea. I'm going to copy the Ford part number off it and feed it to my parts guy.. have him ID it and cross-reference it for any other vehicles that use the same part.
I couldn't find any info for a recalled fuel tank in 91; however, I'm really not surprised.. we all know how almost anything made of plastic in a Ford vehicle is bound to crack..

I have the same problem with my 89 2.9 2x4 supercab. The plastic tank has a plug in the front half way up (middle) that is leaking. It holds no more than 4 gallons and then leaks. the plug looks factory; does yours have a plug there? I am going to try super glue and corn starch (corn starch instead of baking soda because it gives you 20 seconds working time before it sets up instead of 2 seconds). make a paste or putty consistency.

Nothing will hold for any length of time, maybe months
Best bet is to have a plastic weld patch put on it, holds forever
Thats how the plastic tanks are made, two halves plastic welded together
If your leak is half way up then a seam probably failed and was repaired with nut and bolt plug which is why it "looks factory", which is not uncommon, make a larger hole then seal it with a plug
