Haha, I went to a local dealership before I got this truck and they swore up and down that there's no such thing as a level two much less a newer gen with a manual transfer case.

Believe it or not, the silver plastic trim around the shift boots with the allen bolts is called a GAITER in the parts system. It took a really good parts man at the local Ford dealer a week to figure that one out and get me a replacement under warranty.

Plastic, and the allen bolts dont hold it down at all. I had mine but the transmission man trashed it. If I remember correctly there are screws on the inside that hold it down. Not that it matters since you dont have one, but just thought I'd act smart for the moment.

You don't like plastic? There's a lot more of it in your truck, too.

I was really impressed by how much it actually looks like aluminum. Well designed and well executed, IMO.

Hey, if you don't like that, how about this? All of those allen screws are real steel but the threads are only about 1/4" long and thread into the plastic. The "gaiter" is actually held down by 4 black sheet metal screws hidden under the leather boots.

EDIT: Morph beat me to it!

The thing fooled me, it was cold in the winter. I think the '02 FX4/ 03+ Level II is a orphan superman truck. No one wants to claim ownership of it or aknowledge it, but their so badass.

I agree. It's like it was built in a secret back room somewhere. Just try to order stock replacement parts for it from the Ford parts system...

Maybe we should make a sticky thread devoted to special LII stuff.

No, not even a part number on the receipt. After they had so much trouble finding the part, I asked the name of it in case I ever have to track down another one.

If you ever have to remove it, hit me up and I'll give you the procedure. It's easy to break it ... the dealer tech did. LOL.

I asked the dealer to track down the number for me and I finally got an answer.

Silver double shifter bezel for the 02/03 FX4s with manual transmisson and manual transfer case. This is just the bezel and does not include the 2 leather boots.
