buying a new suv/truck, maybe even 2
Ok guys, I just got back from Cheyenne and have come to the conclusion that it's time agian for another vehicle. I am not sure what we are going to get yet, but I know that we will be getting rid of the Eclipse.
The options that I am looking at are to A) trade the Eclipse in on a down payment for a new truck (options are F150 crew cab long bed, silverrado 1500 4 door long bed, GMC 1500 4 door long bed, or a Dodge RAM 1500 crew cab long bed. The basic idea is 4 full doors, LATCH, and a 8 foot box) and give the wife the sport trac B) trade the Eclipse in as a down payment for a new SUV (the choices are a Tahoe, Explorer, Navigator, Durango, or LR3) and keep the Sport Trac or C) Trade the Sport Trac and Eclipse in and get 2 new vehicles.
What do you guys think? We, and buy that I mean she, likes some of the features the the Chevy had that Ford didn't. I like the Displacment on demand type systems that shut cylinders down. She really, and I mean really likes the power liftgate.
I am kind of leaning to kepping the sport trac and just getting a new truck. Do you have anything that I should look at that I havn't seen already? Any pointers? Advice? And is Ford planning on coming out with a displacement on demand system?

I would keep your sport trac for the wife, and get yourself a new truck.
However, you can not get a Crew cab long bed in a half ton truck, unless you get a dodge, but that crew cab quote on quote, is nothing like the other 2. The biggest you can go in the half ton trucks is extended cab long box...........

Well I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to trucks, as far as specs and allot of people i know drive all of the above mentioned models (Ford, Chevy, Dodge) What are you looking for specificly? I mean, towin, haulin people? Let me know. It also depends on your tastes, the new Chevy and GMC truck have had allot of love it or hate it reviews....

I tow a little. I have a 18 foot toy hauler. But I want to get 2 seperate racks for the bed that carry 4 wheelers and to carry snowmobiles. I know that that make them for 6 and 8 foot boxes. I also do alot of install stuff for Qwest and general house work. It needs to also be effiecient (Sp?). I drive a minimum of 150 miles every DAY so a lease is out. Most of the driving is done in the freeway. That is why I asked about the displacment on demand systems

I would have to say then after your list of demands, it seems that the Chevy or GMC crew would be the best for you, but make sure that it comes with a 6 foot bed, Usually the Ford and Chevy half ton beds are like 5.25 feet. I think if you are looking for 4 forward opening doors and a big bed, the dodge would be your best bet, although they don't have as much room in the back as the other 2, and they are gas hogs. This sounds most like what you want as fare as accomidations. I think you need to think about some things here.
Edit: I just checked Chevys web site and the bed is infact less than 6 feet on a 1500 crew.....

I know ford is working on something for the on demand system. The F150 also runs E85... Just another thought... I will be buying Ford(or sister companys) again, I have a buddy that works for ford in their plant in St. Paul (which they are closing) and people buying other makes is what is killing the american cars. anyways.. that isn't this topic. If it was me. Go F150 E85 5.4L Crew Cab. The price you save in the E85 would be jus tabout the same as the better gas milage with the ondemand. Plus you are helping the US Economy ALOT! and making less support of imported oils. just my .02

I live in Utah and E85 isn't an option at the pump. Not even E15. I am not aginst a desiel, but I am not sure that I need that much power. I would like to stay Ford/Mazada/Lincon/Mercury, I have or have had a ZX2, Ranger, RX7, and a Sport Trac. The only thing is that Ford doesn't have a power on demand system yet. I am not in s rush to buy, but I would like to buy in the next 3-6 months.

i was watching tv one night.. couldn't sleep, and while flipping through the channels... i stopped when i saw Howie Long, lol. after a few seconds of watching it, i realized it was an infomercial for the new silverado (that's the new redesigned chevy, right??)... i've gotta say... as much as i don't like chevy... that truck wasn't too shabby at all.
