QUESTION Removing spare tire!!!!

Guys quick question. I am having a hard time getting my spare tire out. I think its because its probably been a long time since it was removed.

I have a 99 2wd Ranger with the type of spare carrier that you need a key. At first the key did not go in all the way but after a bunch of blasts with PB Blaster it fully inserts. I still have a hard time turning the key all the way and pulling out the lock.

From what the manual says it looks like you pull out the circle lock correct??? There is a sort of elongated oval plastic piece around the circle lock. That moves when I try and unlock the spare is that whats giving me a problem?

I really want to do this tonight but if I have to im taking it over to Justin tomorrow.

If anyone can offer tips or suggestions on getting that circle lock off. I am out of options

Thanks guys!

Greg,
when you turn the lock, (you may have to take the tailgate off to see this, or have someone look) are the fingers on the back side of the lock retracting?

you can bring it by about 10am if you want and ill get it out. im leaving at 11:30

ok, youll have to see if those fingers are releasing, if not keep spraying and trying, or get a hammer and a prybar and just blow that thing away

Im going to try again tonight maybe. Is taking the tailgate off easy? I may try to do that later tonight. If I cant get it at all ill bring it by your house one of these days before the lift.

Is it bad if the oval piece comes off as well? I can probably pry that off but I dont want to damage the paint and have it look like ***. Can I use the ignition key as well?

i dont think the igniton key will work
just remove whatever you can
to remove the tailgate, open it to 45 degrees, remove the straps, lift the passenger side off the hinge and then the drivers side slides off

this is why I drop my spare atleast twice a year and spray never sieze into the hole and around the actually carrier assembly....

I dont wanna NEED my spare and not be able to get it down...

should note however that getting my spare down is uber easy and works extremely well.
