Post Re-Introducing Ford Ranger to North America

Greetings fellow Ranger enthusiasts,

You now have the opportunity to become part of a historic event, so please put down that beer for a moment and listen up! I have taken the time to create a page on facebook to re-introduce the Ranger into north America with added improvements much sought after by fans.

I have also created an online petition, a link to which you will find on said facebook page (pinned to the top).

The goal? To garner thousands of potential improved '012 Ranger customers in one place to send a powerful, direct message to the Ford Motor Company.

Word of mouth is powerful, and I encourage you all to persuade those you know whom share our common interest to come together and raise a voice so loud not even Ford can ignore it for long.

The people really do have the ultimate power, and if organized properly is near unstoppable. Let's get signing!

Link: https://www.facebook.com/na.fordranger

If you do not use facebook, you can go directly to the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/ford-motor-...an-ford-ranger

I look forward to the day when the first improved Ranger we all know & love rolls off the assembly line.

Seems like a good idea to me, and it is free

I like the idea although you have two big obstacles to overcome. One the gobs and gobs of profit from the full-size that they have already done the R&D on and the money they would have to spend on retooling a european or southamerican ranger would have to get to be able to be registered here and odds are your chicken tax you speak of would still apply if they build them foreign which they most likely would doesn't really fit their one ford model to build another factory here to make that truck.

Petitions have been tried, thousands of signatures and nothing happened.

I personally think we will see the Ranger again, but it won't be anything resembling the trucks we own, and it may not even be called a Ranger. Who knows.

Well Ford was already making "gobs and gobs" of money on Full-size when they came out with the small Ranger the first time.

F-Series trucks were America's bestselling vehicle(car or truck) for 28 consecutive years
Over 35,000,000 sold since 1948
(Toyota Corolla hit 40,000,000 worldwide in 2013)

"... and it may not even be called a Ranger"
If it ain't called a Ranger then the Ranger ain't back, lol

That may be the case but after the 08 recession and subsequent bailouts at GM and Dodge the big three have been somewhat gun-shy on dumping money into untested markets. I think they would be very cautious about entering a "new" product in the market unless they thought they could make decent profits. As stated importing the euro ranger would be the most feesable money wise but its to close to the f150 as far as capability so there may be low profit margins there. And i really doubt there going to shell out the cash on a scratch built design right now. I just don't see it in the near future maybe in another 10 years but not until the economy fully recovers and they feel they have enough room in case it flops.

North America Stats:
"The market for these smaller pickups, which weigh less and are more fuel efficient than large pickups, makes up only 1.6 percent of the total vehicle market, down from 3.2 percent in 2008."

Which is why some manufacturers left that market, the downward sales, Ford being one of those.

While a petition or write in campaign won't see Rangers coming back in 2016 it does show an interest in the Ford small truck market, which is what Ford Marketing does look for, future trends are what can make or break companies, and in today's "instant opinion", "social media", internet communications, you better believe all Manufacturers have "their eyes on the prize" of what will be the next trended.

So does it matter, of course it does.
Will it bring the small Ranger back, only time will tell.

And the simple truth is, "doing nothing gets you nothing", 100% of the time.

And if you want to do something more pro-active..........buy new small truck from another manufacturer, that will bring up the numbers for small truck sales, if they get high enough Ford will see the trend and come back into that market, then you can sell that truck and buy the Ford small truck, hopefully called the Ranger, lol.

Given the direction their new vehicles have moved...........I would have no confidence anything decent would come of it.

Agreed, hopefully the Taco doesn't get bigger by the time I'm ready to look at one.

Also a lot of these topics come up based on what people see in the used market. There may be a huge demand in the used market for Rangers's but thats because they are cheap and reliable. The companies do monitor that because it is somewhat of an indicator but the majority of those people buying in the used market won't step up to the new market just for a small truck offering. Just because they sell like crazy used doesn't mean they will sell that well with a new price tag.

Just went to ford.com. xlt reg cab starts at 30,335 with v6. When I search inventories cheapest 4x4 I can find is 34,500. That's still a lot more than Ranger fully loaded

You also have to remember the reason the 11's were so cheap is they were on their way out and Ford didn't put very much R&D into them so they could afford a cheaper price. With todays market whether they import the euro ranger and make it comply with the states rules or build another i doubt it will be any less than 25k fully loaded probably closer to 30k my sticker from 03 had an MSRP of 25k and the only thing i didn't have were bucket seats and 4x4 i had all other available options. If it comes back it will out price the market I'm afraid.

I think a fully loaded global ranger will be well into the 30s. I mean look at a Tacoma. 36 grand for a fully loaded one! For a damn small truck

Problem I see is the "small" trucks aren't small any more. Only slightly smaller than a full size. And with the price being so damn similar, people just bump to a full size.

If the ranger comes back and is actually smaller, it might be worth buying.

I wouldn't buy one, so I don't care if it comes back.

I think they could do it. They do it with the escape and explorer. Escape is 20k to 30's. Explorer is 30k to 40's

I just went to Ford's site and priced an F-150 XLT crew cab to $44k, and didn't even check a lot of the features check boxes. A fully loaded Ranger or Tacoma sized truck at mid-30's would be $10k less, and would be pretty reasonable for me. And honestly I don't really care about the loaded price, I'd be looking for a base price closer to $20k. I'd be pretty much ok with something the size of the current Tacoma, especially in reg cab form.
