my dads truck only came with one, yes one key and we need a few more... is there anyway to program some off of just one key? or will we have to jsut get ford to do the first and do the rest the on/off way?

it sucks but you will either have to have ford, or a competent locksmith with the correct tools make the 2nd key fort you, unforunately you're lookin at probly around 70 bucks for that 2nd key. once you have the 2nd one you can make up the rest yourself though.

My truck only came with one key too. Last week I bought two uncut pats keys off ebay. Got them both cut at the local locksmith for 2.50 each. Then they programed one of them for 54 dollars and I programed the third one myself.

If you have two keys your fine, if only one, then you need to pay to get one more programmed so you can program the third one yourself.

I called my local ford dealer just to see how much they were charging for the programming, and they said 52 bucks. 35 each for purchasing the key.

I bought two keys off ebay for around that price

The price for keys and programming varies greatly with the dealer. I have heard programming prices from $50~150.

$35 sounds pricey for a key.

My friendly local Ford dealer sold me a new PATS key for $22 and cut it for free. That was comparable pricewise to what a key from eBay, shipping and local cutting would have cost. However, dealers are free to charge whatever they want for parts and labor.

I bought a third key as a kind of insurance. If I ever lose one, I will still have two available to do the CSM programming without paying for dealer labor. Not a bad idea, IMO.

Programming the CSM to your PATS keys

PATS keys

You show to have a 99 Ranger, not sure if thats the vehicle your lookin for a key for or not?

I work in the Parts Dept of a Ford Dealership................our PATS keys range from $19.95 for this style:

to $26.95 for this style:

and if programmin is needed, it is 1/2 hour of labor rate, in our case, $32.50.

The reprogrammin if you only have 1 key, is a Theft Security, it reprograms the old key & the new key to a new code. That way if somebody was to find your other key or the dealer you bought it from kept it for whatever reason, that old original programmed key will no longer start the vehicle.......it will open the doors, but it will not start it due to the NEW code.

Hope this helps ya understand why it is done.
