For Those With A Manual Transmission...
For those with a manual transmission what oil are you using in your transmission? I have a 2000 2.5L 2WD 5 speed Ranger and am about to change the transmission fluid. The manual specifies for Mercon ATF. I was just curious if anyone runs anything else, such as a manual specific oil like Redline or Amsoil. If so, what are your thoughts? What oil do you suggest?

I am running royal purple in mine, and I can't complain. It does get a bit annoying in the winter. I find that it is a little harder to shift.

I use Royal Purple regularly.....but...since i'm sorta broke, I needed fluid last night badly, so i used the Chevron ATF I had lying around for my chevy. lol.
But yea....Something MerconV equivilent is the fluid the trans calls for....same goes for the transfer case and the power steering.
Almost all newer manual trans take ATF....only rangers that take 90W are the pre-mazda trans manuals from the early 90's.

I noticed it when i swapped Royal Purple ATF in at about 50k. Little smoother shifts. Of course, now I've got a hurst, and there's no way in telling smoothness of shifts anymore. lol. I have yet to try that Royal Purple Syncromax stuff...supposed to be even better than RP ATF in a transmission.

I just use the bulk valvoline ATF at work.. its easier to stick a pumper hose into the hole than quart bottles..
you're a moron.. when it comes to something this critical don't speak unless you know what your talking about.
no, cause not all Automatics take all the same fluid, not all manuals take ATF.
