x2 I wouldnt want to make a ranger fast, if you want a fast vehicle get a car, but I don't think thats your intention you seem to just want a little extra power. Get a tuner for starters!

I have a JET chip ($150?), JBA cat-back exhaust ($275), and I custom cut my air intake box just below the filter (not really recommended if you drive off-road in the mud and water) and my truck is not slow compared to a similar priced vehicle. If you're looking for a 300 hp instant, cheap upgrade, yes a car is the only way go to. But, with those simple mods and less than $500 I am very happy with the performance of my truck (4.0). I also have 31" tires which may slow it down some compared to the stock tire size.
Also, I recommend cleaning your engine internally with fuel injector cleaner, specifically Techron...and run a bottle or two of Seafoam through the brake booster and possibly even inside the intake, if you take the intake tube off up to the throttle body so you can bypass the MAF and other things to get the cleaner in there. Doing those will clean your engine internally to get back lost power, at least that's my thought
A lighter vehicle means a quicker vehicle, so don't carry things that may be heavy that you may not need.
