lol, or bad driver. My previous 5 speed Ranger had 122k on it and never had a bit of tranny problems (or much else for that matter)...

Yeah bad driver. Right. Never had a clutch problem on any of my other manual trans cars. I still would not ever buy a manual trans Ranger. You can't even tow with it.

Yes and no. I'd build the auto tranny as soon as it went out and not worry about it. I'm having to pull the tranny about once a year with my manual.

Might be cheaper to swap over to an auto tranny.

If I had the space and a second vehicle I would do it.

If you think you would enjoy the ranger get it. If not, you could most likely buy a full size for about the same price and get the same mpg.

I'd love to get a new truck. I'd just wait, save up your cash and wait for the perfect used fx4 to come by that has everything you want.

I'd buy a new Ranger if I were in the market for another small truck. Both my old 87 and my 03 are/were manuals. I haul and tow ungodly amounts of stuff with no problems, and have never had any major trans issues.

Towing thing is not true at all. I towed a F350 PS with my truck no problem.

Its tought to beat a brand new truck. True, you can get a potentially better deal by buying a used one, but for the ultimate in reliability, you just cant beat know the complete history of the vehicle. If you are the only one to ever drive it, you know how it was treated and maintained. That alone is worth the extra couple grand it costs to get a new one.

If you can afford it, get a Tacoma. I got the Ranger because I got a great deal. I still like the Tacos more than the Ranger though lol

I'd be looking for a slightly used '09 since they have an 4.0L SOHC and the 4 banger. Not to mention '09 F-150's have 3 V8's to chooses from.

Me I would get a Supercab Sport or XLT 4x2 with an SOHC and call it a day.

I just bought an 03 ranger edge with the 5spd manual tranny, Im not sure if you read my "frozen clutch" post but I bought it Friday night, $7,000, sunday morning it would not go into gear. I got one day of use and the clutch went out. Its at the dealer now getting a new clutch (im paying for it, i bought from a private seller). I did some research before I bought it and it seemed to me like manual was the way to go, but now I am regretting it. What do you hate so much about the manual? you said you have to pull it once a year, how many miles do you put on a year? what goes bad every year the slave? Do you replace it yourself or have a shop do it? if you do it yourself where do you get the part from? Maybe your just ordering a cheap slave?
Will the ford dealership put in a good quality slave or are theirs crap and the ones online good?

I'll bet you can get one for alot less than the internet price, however, remember, most of the time, if not all the time, as soon as you sign your name on the title the value drops a few grand. Remember that. IMO, buy a used, low mileage 06/07.

I like the newer rangers. I would hunt for a used but if you want certain options buy new.

I dont regret buying my Ranger new. I wish I could have bought a new F150 but its new enough for my needs.

I'm going to buy a fully loaded 4wd mazda the last year they make them, so I'll have something new that all my mods will work on.

Didn't they already discontinue the Mazda production?

EDIT: NM, I don't know where that idea got planted.

It's the slave that's the problem. I drive quite a bit but I still shouldn't have to drop the tranny once a year. I don't even drive like I used to when I first bought my truck.

I buy my parts from Rockauto.com and this new slave is a Rhino Pack I believe. The first time I got the work done it was a place that does other work as well. The second time it was done at Ford.

As much as I would like a new Ranger, or one that does not have too many miles, I do not need the car payment and increased insurance.

I have my 93 running very very well, with excellent gas mileage as well.

I get comments from other Ford owners when they see it, how good the truck looks, which is always nice for a 15 year old truck with 177k miles on it.
