4X4 light flashes

4X4 light flashes
I have a 99 Ranger supercab 4X4. The other day the 4X4 was working fine, but today when I crank it up, the 4X4 high and low lights flash for a few seconds then go off, and the 4wd doesn't engage. I unplugged the connector for the electric motor and couldn't get any current on any of the prongs. Any suggestions?

Here's an update. I left it in 4 wheel high for several miles, and the light finally came on and it was fine. I turned it off, then on for several days and no problem. Now it doesn't seem to want to come on at all and flashes 6 times, then goes off. Could these six flashes be a code of some sort?

Yup.
You can pull the shift motor and turn the **** with pliers. If your worried about it.
Otherwise cleaning it or replacing it are your options.
Servicing A Transfer Case Shift Motor
The brown wire needs to be removed from the connector. It just clips in, and will lock back in place.

My 99 had bad vacuum lines to the hubs. After snipping the ends and putting back on the light stopped flashing and the front drive shaft engages. I am still engaged in the hubs, so I am going to replace the entire line on each side and if that doesn't work off to the hub mod or replacing them both.

the selector disk with the little contacts gets worn with use and stops making contact properly. Thats why I'm pro-manual transfer cases
