3rd brake light wiring

Yes, I searched. I found a few topics, but nothing satisfactory for me to know exactly what I need to do. In order to get an XLT 3rd brake light to work on my truck, what do I need to do? I want the cargo lights to come on whenever the dome light comes on: open doors, dimmer switch, and when I hit unlock on my key fob. When I bought it, a black/blue wire was cut and spliced to a wire that I believe was black. I couldn't, however, find where either of the 'other side' of those 2 wires that were spliced together went, if that makes any sense. Anyways, what do I need to do?

My plug only has the wiring for the brake light. So that's the only thing that works.

Early production 2003 models have the black/pink cargo wires in the plug. These are plug and play with the earlier white/red/white XLT CHMSL.

Most 2003's do not have the wiring since cargo lamps were deleted for that year and later. They require a small amount of additional wiring as noted below.

Get the W/R/W cargo light style CHMSL and connect the brake light wire (green) from the harness to the green wire on the center socket as before.

Then tee a wire into the dome light wire (black/light blue) and extend that wire back above the headliner and split it to feed the two outer sockets (black/pink).

The remaining black wires from the cargo light sockets should already be spliced to the black of the stop lamp to provide ground.

That's all there is to it. You will have cargo lights whenever the dome light is on.

Well i have the harness that was on the original truck.

So I should tap the dome light wire (black/light blue) and then split it to the two black/pink wire in the socket?

i just went to the local auto store and bought 2 replacement sockets that fit each side and bought 2 white 194 bulbs wired it in and bam all 3 lights work!

EDIT: some of the guys on here bought an LED version high mount brake light with white LED lights on each side and red in the middle and they mount right up might wanna try that too.

Sounds right. Then it should work like Kyle said in his first post.
