'86 or '87 2.9L Engine in a '92 Ranger

My 1992 2.9L V6 blew the headgasket on me. I have located some salvage engines and the price is right, so I am going to drop one in. I am wondering if there was any difference in this engine from 1986 or 1987 (the year of the two I am looking at) to 1992. Can anyone tell me if I am going to run into issues?

Also, if my truck is a 5spd manual transmission, is there anything I would need to change if the engine I buy came out of a truck with an automatic? Is the fly wheel or bell housing different?

Thanks for the help,

Johnny B
