Where to Find Clutch How to:
Anyone know where to find a how to on clutch replacement for an 03 Ford ranger. I am debating doing it myself or paying the 500 to have a mechanic do it for me.. I am hoping there might be a how to so I can save the money.
Any help would be lovely.
I did some searching and didnt find much but i know older members know where everything is.

get yourself a hynes manual... i never touched a clutch in my life and with that manual, i removed the automatic then installed a manually transmission...
it is actually very easy... it was a bit intimidating though going into it.... i did everything by my self i mean everything, cept when my roomate gave me a few minutes of his time to help me align the splines when putting the new tranny in... and again i made my girl friend help align the t-case 5 mins of her time...
good luck

durr....get a chiltons or haynes manual...i did my first ranger clutch job using just that . dont forget to get yourself External torx sockets if you plan or removing your flywheel from the engine for resurfacing. When putting the trans back in, be mindful of the clutch disc....should you bend it by not aligning the splines properly, you'll have clutch chatter...thats always fun to have.

if installed backward you can't get the pressure plate installed....
OHHH...i dont use a tranny jack.....i use my floor jack with a chunk of 12x12 with a 'V' cut into it....that's my redneck tranny jack!
You'll likely need to pull out your seats and pull your carpet back to gain access to the inspection cover around the shifter. I think that plate must be removed if you are not bodylifted. Needs to be removed because of the chunk sticking out of the trans that goes into the cab for the shifter.....gotta move the trans back about 4" and you aint got 4" of clearence because of that inspection plate. While you got that tranny out, you might as well send me your tailhousing off the trans and send me that transfercase too.

Jay....read what i said again....you need to take the seats out to fold the carpet back enough to remove the inspection cover. Like i said i dont remember exactly if it's a requirement...i just know i did twice whne i was stock unbodylifted when i dropped the trans.
Get all your parts INCLUDING SLAVE CYLINDER together and it can be done in 1 day.

that's your job. Id say stay local for the warranty. Generally...$200 for a complete clutch kit(disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and alignment tool). $75ish for the slave.

[QUOTE=Fx4wannabe01;1196944]I was unable to drop mine w/o removing that inspection cover. Even after lowering the trans x-member was unbolted.
thats odd, i have never had a poblem, next time i pull a SOHC 5speed ill have to pay attention...was that with the hurst on it? or the stock shifter?
