Trans problem o/d light flashing

Hey all, it's my first post but I'm having some problems with my 98 ranger , 3.0 v6 4x4. At first while I was driving and got to around 50 mph my o/d light would flash and shift harshly so I replaced the torque convertor, fluid and filter, and because it was bad the transmission range sensor. But when I finished with the torque converter, now he light is on constantly and shifts hard only in to second gear, and also when I decelerate. I had the trans looked at and my tempature reading on the transmission was 8,000 degrees and the trans is going in limp mode. Anybody know and possible fixes for this issue?

You need to get the trouble codes on your computer read. The O/D Off light is essentially a Check Engine light for your transmission. That will lead you in the direction you need to go as far as repairs on concerned.

Also, there's no way your transmission was truly 8,000 degrees. You wouldn't have a transmission there anymore if that was the case.

I had it scanned and it was trans range sensor and something about the trans tempature, but I can't remember if there was a sensor for it. Do you know what could be causing it to got that 8,000 degree reading?

Do you know where the trans temp sensor is located and how to change it? Think that is where the problem is

I can't remember for sure but I believe the range sensor on those are adjustable and you need to set it up for the right spot so the computer sees the correct voltage for the position it is in. If not it can cause them to slip and flash the o/d light as well! Should be able to see the voltage pid on a scanner or look up the procedure and specs to do it with a volt meter

Thanks for the reply, and yes they are adjustable. Do you think that could be causing the 8,000 degree reading??? I called ford and they said my vehicle isn't equipped with any trans temp sensor so I don't know where to look next

I'll have to look up in my diagrams when I get back to work on Monday unless I go up there tonight to work on my rangers motor. What's all the info on your truck and what code is it throwing?

I checked and all the wires seemed to be ok, taking it to a trans shop tomorrow for a full diag.

Cause unless you have a scanner to use on it. I can't find the way to adjust the one on your truck with a volt meter. I looked for about 30-40 min on our computers for the procedure today but I couldn't find it
