where does the o ring go on a cooler line fitting?
Hello, I got a small leak on the auto transmission oil cooler line that goes into the bottom brass fitting on the radiator.
It was leaking from the threads of the coupler that threads the cooler line into the brass fitting.
When I installed it, I pushed the o-ring into the bottom of the brass fitting thinking that's where it supposed to go.
However, the leak made me think that perhaps it isn't in the right place or the flange end of the cooler line didn't go in straight into the bottom of the brass fitting on the radiator.
The idea is that by the o ring being around the outlet nipple at the bottom of the brass fitting and the flange end of the cooler line it would act as somewhat of a seam seal.
after taking it out, I realized that it could also go between the cooler line flange and the flat bottom side of the coupler that allows the cooler line to thread into the brass fitting on the radiator.
So as you thread the coupler, the o ring would be squished a little between the bottom flat side of the coupler and the flange end of the cooler line.
I left the o ring at the bottom of the brass fitting where the cooler line flange meets the little nipple at the bottom of the brass fitting and applied some ptfe to the threads.
Any one know where the o-ring actually goes?
Tia.
