new box for my xtra cab 08.

they say you live and learn. my 93 ranger (rip) had a box designed and made by me.
it housed the 3 amps, 2 12"subs, a pioneer cd changer and had some small storage spots.
the subs faced to the front as did the ports. the amps were mounted to the back wall of the cab behind the box and out of sight. this set up while very secure (both seats had to be removed to install/remove or mess with the amps) was a major PITA! the box was bolted to the floor and rear wall of the cab. it was a very clean install, carpet matched the interior, and the top deck had stainless drawer handles as "cargo" holders. the storage was under the top deck and could hold a cue case or a small .22 rifle.
i wish i took pics of the build as it took 2 or more weeks to complete. i had all the needed tools and spare room in my shop to do this.

now i own a new 08 xtra cab ranger, and i have most of the old system less the head unit, subs and 1 amp. after spending the last 2 years driving around with only the stock radio, i want to put the old system back together, but with some improvments/changes.

things i have learned:
-subs get dusty... covers/grills get dented.
-i want my seats to go back farther.
-amps need attention sometimes, wires come loose, fuses blow etc...
-i never used the jumpseats, nor ever want to.
-the rifle- although was fun to have around, got the crap beat out of it while riding around in the box...

that leads to changes i want to make to the new system:

-less sub, 10"s NOT 12"s
-much slimmer/wider box
-DOWN fireing subs!
-easy access to amps (sort of)
-i dont really need the .22 all the time anymore...

things i need:
-wood
-tools
-new head unit(mp3 and ipod compatable)
-new subs
-power/speaker wires

details of the hardware:
-2 mtx 4 ch amps (dont ask, i forgot the model # & specs.)
-4 apline 6x8
-pioneer 6 disc changer
-100% of the rca cables and other unit specific wires, cap, and fuse blocks

i do have a shop that will let me use thier tools in return for cleaning the shop and maybee some beer!
so here is a mock up i just did using windows picture software.
there are no def. numbers or measurements as i dont have the subs yet. but the cab has not changed and when i get around to breaking out the ruler and start cruntching the numbers i will have a better idea of what i want to do with the space.

the "dead space" is just that. space where the sides of the box and the contours of the intierior meet. last time, i just used some carpet stapled to the side of the box and velcro strips on the cab body to cover the opening. i may do that but i am wanting "hard" panels... i think.
i will add to this as i make my start- i hope it is soon!
