I did not see a thread dedicated to exhaust products. My blind butt might have missed it. I was wonderin if there is an affordable 3" cat back system, single exit in the stock location. I've looked but I cannot justify 600 bucks for a danged single exhaust setup and I dont want or need dual. I detest Flowmaster because it sounds like a deadgum tin can....a REAL loud tin can. I'm proud for you if you happen to like Flowmaster. I don't. lol I had a Magnaflow stainless round straight through installed on a Jeep I used to have and it sounded good. Not too loud and had a nice deep tone. Summit has a setup for like 139 bucks, but it necks up from 2" to 3" where it connects where the stock muffler used to be. I want something that bolts to the existing flange and is 3" all the way out. Is there anything out there like that? Thankya.

as far as i know there are no kits for 3 inch cat back. biggest will be 2.5" with 3 inch tips.

 

3inch is way overkill on the ranger

JBA, Dynomax, Gibson, Magnaflow, Borla. Pretty sure those are all the big names that have single outlet kits for rangers.

 

Well, no offense meant to those of you who say it's overkill, ect., but I am sure there are some who have the dual 2.5" exhaust. What do you think that is on the 3.0L Ranger? Yeah. Overkill. 3" is what I asked about, that's all. If I cannot find a 3" system that will fit, or I can make fit like I want, I will look at the 2.5". thanks for the answers yall.

 

why do you think you need to have a full 3inch exhaust?

 

yea i have a 2.5" on a 4.0. i had a 3 in on my 5.4 f150 and that was a little overkill. a 2.5 will be perfect and i know there are alot of kits out there if you want a pre bent kit or if you cant find one you like places can make one. all the decision making comes down to deciding what muffler you want then the tubing is easy.

 

I say f-it...go with 4"!!!

I installed a Dynomax cat-back on my dads 02 Fx4 last year, and i am still really happy with the result. It fits nice and tight under the truck, and exits in the same basic location as the stock exhaust. The sound track is nice as well. Its nice and mellow, but not overbearing.

Thankya. That's the kinda input I'm lookin for. Lemmie ask you this....what about the tip? Can I leave it off or is it manditory? I hate chrome and bling.

 

The tip is actually welded to the rest of the exhaust, so its pretty much on there. But that being said, its really not that obnoxiously bling on the back of the truck, unless your really focused on it, you would probably have a hard time telling its an aftermarket exhaust. I can take a few photos of the installed product tomorrow and post them here if you would like. If it really bugged you, i suppose you could cut it off and weld on a new section...but i think once you see it installed it wouldn't bug you.

 

i just put a jba stainless catback kit on mine bout a month ago i like it. it's not loud but got a deep throaty rumble to it, that is what i wanted i hate the sound of a loud v6.

 

If it's not too much trouble, pictures would be great. I have a large blasting cabinet so "unpolishing" the tip would not be a problem. I might even paint it high temp low gloss black.

Hey man, sorry i didnt get the photos up yesterday...i got called into work and could not get over to take shots of the exhaust. However, today was a different story...and now the pics.









Keep in mind that the truck is not washed, so there is some northern Michigan winter road crap on the truck and the exhaust...but overall its not really that flashy.

 

i had the dynomax kit, its nice for the fact its cheap, and kinda easy to install (the factory hangers are a pain) but the sound is just a tad over stock, really. also i found the the clamps were crap, i had them come off many times! i ended up welding it. then i ended up sticking a flowmaster on.

as for the 3", i think as long as your header pipe (the one leading from the cat to muffler) is 2.5" you will be fine, you can do as big as you want on the tail pipe.

Take the part number for it and search ebay I found one for $332 with free shipping but had to spend money on Christmas instead... Damn girlfriend wants jewelry and stuff.

Hmmm...this one has had no problems with the clamps at all. i wounder if they changed the design or started shipping better clamps? I have no clue on that one.
