More Katemcy carnage

I think it happened at katemcy.. somehow i didn't break it while i was there.

I got LUCKY Friday, i almost put the truck in 4wd to climb a hill out at the lake, but instead i took my buddy around to the top and came down. There were no remains of anything resembling needle bearings in 3 of the 4 caps, they're all cracked, one of the caps walked half way out of the ear of the axle shaft.. talk about REAL close call.. 4wd woulda been instant death to another axle shaft.

meh, $20 ujoint..

its what i get for running what was probably a 32 year old stock ford U-joint.. I spent almost 9 hours yesterday at the shop taking apart both axles and cleaning them up all nice and pretty, and lubricating and cleaning the hubs, it really needed it after my sunkage in the lake.

the one that goes OVER the gas tank? or that the driveshaft goes over?

I had to notch the one thats right behind the t-case on my truck.

but my trans cross member is all bent and tweaked to hell, i need to make a beefy one, and while I'm at it'll probably lift the whole driveline and flat bottom it BL for the win.. for once.

OH! and.. for the viewers.. the chunks missing from the caps. that wasn't me removing them! that was how they were while they were ON the axle!

yea, I've been looking at picking up a spare drive shaft, i meant to have one before katemcy..

now I'm looking at shortening my wheelbase and I think I'm gonna go as short as a single cab to make finding drive shafts easier... then again there's not too many single cab 4x4s..

I have a similar issue but i think I blew the little clip off and then the cap worked out letting sand get into it. I am not too thrilled about taking it apart either.

I just use a few big *** hammers and a vice, sometimes a socket .. seems to work for me. or in the case of changing a ujoint at camp at krocks, a decent size hammer and a trailer. ha

Mine were just ready to go.. between my adventure in the lake and the fact they're old as hell i'm surprised they held on.

yep, left matt out of the equation my bad..

I tacked the caps of my new u-joint onto the axle shaft.. we'll see if that works out. I need to replace the hub on the driver side now, when i tear it down I'll replace the ujoint on the other side.

I'll get righttttt on that.. maybe buy me some of those for the rest of my payment for the coil overs? Its really not too hard to tear apart so if/when i buy chromos it wont be a huge deal to swap them out

I gotta get money put away for Sema..
