'84 2.3 carb help
I have an '84 ranger with the 2.3 and manual transmission.
I'm looking for some help with rebuilding or replacing the carb.
It's really hard to start after sitting a few weeks.
The accelerator pump circuit seems kaput.
I would ideally like to just buy one that's ready to bolt-on.
Even a good used one is fine if it works for a few more years.
Second choice would be a good donor carb to rebuild.
Lastly, I would rebuild the existing one, but I think the thyrottle shaft or the casting is worn out because I have idle speed problems and horrible transistions off of idle.
I'm in CA so there are probably smog parts on mine that others don't have.
I had the carb off and rebuilt several years ago, but it's time to do it again.
I don't drive the truck much more than 1000 miles a year so it spends most of it's time sitting.
I probably should keep some seafoam in the tank, but alas I did not...
How many different makes / models of carbs were used on these 2.3's?
Can anyone point me to a good cross reference as to what years/models will interchange with my '84?

well first you'll want to make sure that you don't actually have a 2.0 and not a 2.3 and secondly if you don't get much for replies here (the carbed Limas are very old technology) You may want to post this over on TRS in the 4-cyl forum as DaveR and Mutant Pony over there know quite a lot about the carbed Lima's and all the different carbs and different intakes that were used, which one's are actually good and which are trash, what is a good carb to swap to and what intake is needed for it and so on. This is an ok site for the newer Lima's and a great site for the Duratec 2.3s but the old carbed motors aren't very common here and unfortunately there aren't many people online anywhere that really know about them. I know there are 3 or 4 carbs that were common over the years on the Lima and I've heard some are complete trash but I have no idea what they are as I never paid much attention to them.
