1997 Ranger XLT Basic Suspension Advice
Hey All,
On the way out from our hunting lodge yesterday after our long weekend I completely removed the sidewall on a front tire, and on the ride home on the highway lost a fuel pump - luckily with a few swift kicks to the tank I got her going again, but it seems my poor old ranger is due for some good TLC.
As part of this project, I'm hoping to replace the existing suspension - all stock and nearly rusted out - I don't have much experience with suspensions, so I'm wondering what type of setup would be reccomended. Not looking for anything special with regard to clearance or body lift, just a good solid (hopefully cheapish) new suspension.
My truck is a 97 XLT, 2WD, 3.0.
Thanks a lot! Hoping to become a regular on these forums as I revamp the old girl.

I have no idea. im still new to all this myself. my suggestion would be get the list of replacement parts from like advanced auto or a ford dealer ship. that way you have a good idea of measurements and types of springs bolts and brackets you'll need. then you can play with what you need and what you actually want. i wish someone would out rite sell "suspension overhaul kits" that just replaces everything without doing the hunting.

1 common issue is rear leaf spring perches over time they rot so bad it becomes seperated from the spring ,,, i replaced all 4 of mine ,,,the pain with replacing is they are riveted in from the factory so i ground of the rivet heads the airhammered the rivet out ,,, only other pain is the gas tank 1 ,,,, i have a 97 4x4 xlt needs a suspension overhaul bought it in 07 and havent done anything to it 190xxx miles on it but has treated me well gl
