So I have been reading around on here but maybe Im just looking for a more direct answer... Im looking for options to lift my 1999 4wd Ranger (obviously with torsion bars)

I think I have an option in going with a Body Lift- Problems: I have tow hooks and like to use them how can I keep them on with a lift? I have a trailor for my quad for hunting season and need to be able to tow it..Any options for a trailor hitch that isn't sitting 3 inches below the bumper? I would like to get a brush guard/bull bar but will it look "dumb" with it being 3in. lower than normal?

I can get around those issues if I go with a suspension lift but... Problems: What options do I have for lifting the front? Ok, crank the torsion bars...whats the difference between the torsion bars I have and the ones summit/ebay want me to buy? how are those to be installed? Will getting lifted shockes help lift it more? Are there any other options? I want to get close to 3in. but if its less its not a deal breaker. I know I can lift the back with AAL or stack on 3 in. blocks to my existing ones or get extended hangars...all of which are cheap routes to go. I just really dont know how to lift the front.

Please help! Also I forgot to mention I dont reall have $1000+ to do this all (that is why I am deeply considering the BL)

 

• Tow hooks, cut the mounts and reweld need to do some fabrication
• trailer hitch can also be cut and rewelded, or run a draw tite hidden hitch like on my truck doesnt look as low
• brush guards are also same make new brackets alot of guys run them after body lift, Jewler and Redrocket has

• ebay one's are lift keys not the whole bar. which is the same as cranking the bars. its only for leveling not really lifting a whole lot
• do not get lift keys its a waste of money
• only true front lift option left is superlift kit which is $1500 then need a new front driveshaft which is around $500

pretty much your only option is a body lift then.. unless you find a cheap used kit.

 

thats what it seemed like. Thanks for the info, Im just a little nervous about breaking lines and such for the BL also fabricating can always be a good time!

So is it worth it to buy the Performance Accessories BL for $190 or is the Summit kit $150 all but the same?

I forgot to include the manual shift extension onto the price of each kit so I put it in another thread but it happened to be after you had posted.

 

Like Zach said, just get a body lift.
I used the performance accessories kit on my ranger and sport trac, but a lot of people use the summit kit. There is no need to worry about damaging any brake lines or anything with the body lift, everything is addressed during the install. Be sure to check clearance of the A/C line near the serpentine belt though.
What I did on my sport trac was have someone build me a front hitch that poked out through the opening in the bumper, rather than messing with changing the tow hooks. The advantage to this was being able to mount a winch on the front, maneuver a trailer from the front, and having a place to hook up a recovery strap that pulled from the center, rather than just one frame rail. The hitch bolted to the same spot that the tow hooks were. I bought a uhual rear hitch (tube style hidden behind the rear bumper) and had the brackets cut and drilled to raise it up as well.



If you search around you will find a few people on here who have made front receivers like this.

BAM!

 

I went out to summit last night and they gave me credit! So I bought the summit BL, cragar soft 8's w/crome center caps, Procom es3000 shocks(mine are a little saggy and crusty), and a glasspack(not sure how it will sound but figure for $20 Id try it out). I want to put my lift on this weekend but my buddy has to work practically from light to dark today tomorrow and sunday...so the BL will have to wait. I will however get the new shocks on. Still nervous about the whole lift going smoothly. I have read the instructions 3 times over hope I dont miss anything.

 

could not help but notice how close that knuckle from the train car is to your truck... hope you had three point protection in place... lol. what railway do you work for??..
