Hey guys I am planning to SAS my 99 Ranger 4wd. The front end is squealing and needs work and I wanted to do a 4" Superlift which is $2,000 so I am thinking about just SAS. Seems to be a much better setup than freakin T-bars. Just wondering if there are any kits out there or parts to make it easier on us T-bar guys. I have read that a Dana 30 is not worth using and have gathered that the Dana 44 is a good one to use? What vehicles should I look for that had this axle? Also, what leafs should I use, shocks, etc etc. I have searched threads but just can't seem to find all the info I need. Any help appreciated!

 

Ok so you wanna use a d44. Fords have the 5x5.5 pattern. Jeep wagoneers have some weird 6 lug pattern. I heard you can use dodge parts and make them 5x4.5

As for parts there isnt a set list of what you need. It all depends on your setup and what you want.

 

Well I chose the 44 cause it seems to be the best choice for a SAS from what I've been reading. I will not be doing any major off-roading in the truck. It will mostly be for city and highway use since it is my daily driver so I want it to be practical.

There is some kit some guy made in the calssifieds section right now, i dont know much about it, just remember seeing it!

 

Why is everyone against solid axle swaps on daily drivers. I drive my truck every day and get 18 to 20 mpg the ride is no worse maybe a little better than the ttb I removed. Look at the factory vehicles with solid front axles I have not heard any complaints about daily driving those vehicles. jeep, Toyota, Suzuki, ford F series, Chevy and dodge. and most people would rather have a vehicles with solid front axles. for strength and reliability.

 

Justin has a point for a TTB truck. It doesnt work as easily with an IFS truck. IIRC you did a duff bolt on kit? those had tons of time put into making them work perfectly for DD use. There is no real doctrine on how to make it work on an IFS. Just what other guys have made work

I think it would cool if you could do a sas and keep the height almost stock. Just like the Dakota solid axle mini truck.
