Would a rear sway bar improve handling? I do all street driving but I do have a heavy foot and sometimes when I go into a corner it feels like the truck is losing traction, I have a set of Bilsteins on order, this may cure the problem. I don't think its the tires, I have Bridgestone Duelers all the way around.

I got a Hellwig rear sway bar kit from Summit Racing. Made a big difference in reducing body roll.I haul a lot of stuff on some winding roads, so for me it is great.

 

You can run a stock explorer rear bar if you wanted....or get a stock ranger rear bar as well. They do improve bodyroll definately. But, what do i know? I have no swaybars. lol.

 

yea, I took mine off, and I tried to sell it.. I think it got tossed in the dumpster months ago.

 

there are so many different factors that go into handling through corners. A sway bar, as already mentioned, will help with 'body roll' though that's not what's actually happening to your tires.

think about this: for every set of tires on any given vehicle, there is a limit to traction:

basically, what i'm trying to illustrate here is that you can have your tires completely devoted to turning and linear acceleration at the same time or you're going to slide.

What do you really wanna do? corner faster or scare yourself less when you slide?

 

I would stay away from the Hellwig, if you do get it you will start to ask your self if this is really going to work and if they could have done a worse job of designing the links to the frame.

After plenty of buying stuff that I did not like that well, I finally ended up with an awesome combination for the street. I have a 2008 4x4 XLT, I replaced the shocks with KYB Monomax's all the way around, OEM rear sway bar and the most important part of it all...Bridgestone REVOs. My little truck is glued to the road, the KYBs really help in keeping the truck flat and the REVOs stay stuck to the road.
