My 2000 Ranger XLT has 16 inch rims and the factory tire sizes is 245/75/16. What would be the best studded snow tires? We've always used Firestone Winterforce on our subarus but i wasn't sure if anyone knew of any better ones.

I've never put snow tires on my rangers since they've both had mud terrains and they do great in the snow but I had General Altimax Arctic on my old car and man do they grip well.
I ran them as all seasons because I didn't want to buy a 2nd set of tires. Drove on em for 3 years and they still worked awesome each winter haha

 

Bring on the hate, but I love my siped mud tires for winter driving.

Mud tires are some of them worst tires for packed snow and ice, but the best for deeper snow.

I had my hankook MT siped for better packed snow and ice traction. Absolutely worked awesome.

BTW. They are studdable.



Now, winter tire specific, blizzaks seem to be a good name.

 

On my 5th winter with the studded General Altimax Arctics. 245/75-16. Studs are nearly gone. Read the rubber gets hard and the performance declines after 5+ years. Will keep a watch on these tires for this (and hopefully next) winter.

Gonna update this, still have my hankook siped on the ranger. And still love them.

Also bought a car this past year, and this winter I have the GT altimax arctic studded. Absolutely amazing tires. Can't go wrong with em.

 

Duratracs are also a good option. You can add studs.

 

For strictly street driving, sure duratracs are good. Offroad, junk.

Although I haven't gotten stuck with Duratracs, I haven't exactly tried to either. But they don't seem to clean very well from what little off-roading I have done. They do great in sugar sand though.
