2.3 intermittent power loss
2.3 intermittent power loss
Hey 95 2.3 lima close to 300k
every now and then it feels like it loses some horses…
the first time i noticed it was about a month ago and if felt like it didnt have the go juice when i floored it while rolling. So i put gas in it and checked the oil and it was low, so i tooped it off with a quart and now its fine
it started doing it again last night. I check the oil and its not low just dark, but ive only had it in for 1000 miles, minus the extra quart 2-300 miles ago.
could it be another gremlin? It doesnt throw any codes (except p1443 which is just egr or vent or something) and I just put a new fuel filter on it too.
what should i check?
also side question, would it run bad if the thermostat was bad?

P1443 Evaporative Emission System Control Valve (low/no flow)
Yes EVAP system code, shouldn't cause running issues
You have dual spark plug system which adds more power, benefit
Drawback is that you can never tell when 1 spark plug starts to fail, or wire or coilpack, lol
So test it once a year, or twice, up to you
Engine off
Unplug either coil pack's 3 wire connector, pull it back far enough so no arcing
Start engine, should be smooth, no misfires
Go for a drive, again smooth,no misfires
CEL(check engine light) should come on, that's OK, codes will self clear when coil pack is connected again, but your CEL is already on so.........
If all is well test the other coil pack and spark plugs, go for a drive
The 2.3l Lima engine ran just fine on just 4 spark plugs and distributor, from 1974 thru 1988, dual plugs were only added in 1989 for a bit more power
