2.3 Stalling, Missfires no mechanic can help !
New to this so bear with me, i got a 97 2.3 ranger (manual 5 speed). It runs good but winter time came around and i started noticing a couple issues going on. in extreme detail i can say what goes on.
It mostly happens as i first start it up after not driving for a while and this problem is more worse in winter or colder conditions. When i start driving and get to even 2nd gear and then come to a stop say at a red light my truck will shake violently everything’s shaking, and the other half times it will shake and then stall out and take a good couple seconds to start back up again. Along with this i have misfires occasionally, and the only codes i have for my check engine light are my cats, which have now been cut off. Strangely this problem is not as prevalent when it’s warmed up after a decent drive and will not happen for the most part although it still will shake a little but not much, unless i get a red light going fast or someone pulls out and i push the clutch and brake it will stall on me and just shut off. this has. been happening for an extremely long time, the misfires read on cylinder 6 and then some other ones but it’s rare it misfires. just the stalling and very violent shaking when coming to a stop while still cold is common or pretty much every single day.
now going over things i’ve replaced or done to fix this issue, fuel filter, spark plugs (only 7 out of 8), spark plug wires, cat delete, cleaned throttle body, engine filter, seafoam high mileage for any fuel related issues, PCV valve, brake booster valve. I work at a mechanic shop as a salesman and have done a good bit of work on the truck myself i know a decent bit but not a mechanic of the any sorts but i don’t know if my mechanics are uneducated or don’t try hard enough to find the problem but running a tablet scan tool they say everything is fine and just give me a couple ideas like EGR valve or other stuff i just don’t know where to start and i put enough money into this problem and don’t wanna continue fixing it if it won’t help.
