2.3L COOLANT PIPE CONNECTOR

2.3L COOLANT PIPE CONNECTOR

Just wondering if anyone has ever removed and replaced an COOLANT PIPE CONNECTOR ? As best as I can describe it as a COOLANT PIPE CONNECTOR that goes between the upper radiator hose and engine inlet block for coolant circulation. Please see attached pictures Thanks in advance Rob

What do you need to replace it for? Is it rusting or otherwise broken?

When you take it out, it is sealed by 2 o-rings. You can replace those if needed.

I have removed it, but had no need to replace it. It comes out easy enough. Remove the hoses attached to it, the two bolts, and with a little effort (and some rotational force) it will pull out of the water neck pretty easily.

I'd suggest running a little bit of emery cloth back over the flange on the inside of the water neck to make sure any residual rubber isn't left over from the o-rings. Try not to scrap or sand it with anything sharp.

The Coolant pipe is starting to show a little rust where the heater control valve hose connects to the coolant pipe , just want to remove and replace it before it breaks. The truck has 196K on it I really appreciate the advice on removal and prep before installation .

That pipe is pretty stout. If that's your only concern, wire wheel it, scuff it up, wash it out, then stuff the ends with paper towels. Then respray the setup with some high temp paint or ceramic paint.

Its a pretty thick pipe, don't get dead set on replacing it yet just for some surface rust. Throw some naval jelly on it if you really want to go all out, or go the science method and use some electrolysis.

To amend this, I would just use a little bit of petroleum jelly on the seals and the water neck when you reinstall the adapter to the aluminum neck.
