I've "finally" located a Ford Ranger 2.3 engine in a wrecking yard. The yard specifies it as a 2003 Vin D 2.3 SOHC???
Without making the 3 hours round trip to visually look, does anyone know if the (2003 with 2.3 eighth digit D in VIN) EVER have a Single overhead Camshaft?
My blown engine has a cracked short block. 2005 2.3. They will not go into the yard to confirm for me.

 

1986 - Early 2001 2.3/2.5 Lima was SOHC

Late 2001 - Present Is a 2.3 Duratec DOHC

So if it's in a 2003 Ranger, it's a 2.3 DOHC

 

I thought so. The Wrecking yard just depended on the VIN code writeup. Lucklily, I found an engine where the seller is pulling it first for me.
