Hi all,

I just picked up a 2003 B2300 w/ the 2.3 DOHC duratec engine. I thought the engine bay looked a little funky as it has that metal bracket by the intake manifold with nothing attached, and also the 2 circular connections on the intake arm with nothing attached as well. I went to look at some other engine bay pics of the 2.3 duratec and noticed some had a bigger looking airbox extension. Anyone have any idea what this is? I attached a pic. Any help would be appreciated! I checked the parts diagram on a ford and mazda site and both only show the intake arm on the diagram.

 

Never had a 2.3l Duratec but that extra "box" is what that bracket is for and that's a resonance chamber to quiet down intake air flow

As long as the two "holes" are blocked off then no issues without these, might be a little power loss or gain, like I said don't have one to know

 

Resonator! that was the word I was looking for. Searching with that keyword has allowed me to find several topics on this now. Thanks for the help! I'll be getting some plugs soon.
