2011 2.3 randomly dies
I recently bought this bare bones 190,000 mile Ford Ranger 2.3L, 2x4 automatic. It has recently been stalling randomly, and it seems like a fuel or sensor issue.
The first time I ever got a wind of this I was just sitting still idling and it seemed to almost die on me. I didn't think too much of it as it ran perfectly the next week driving 40 miles back and forth to work.
First time it stalled on me I had been sitting at a light and took a left turn in front of traffic. The engine spluttered and stopped in the middle of the intersection, which I responded to by throwing it it neutral and got it started right back up.
Last week it left me stranded on the side of the highway, but after I left it there and returned 8 hours later, it started right back up but died again. (Lucky it didn't get towed)
While waiting for a tow-truck, I managed to start it and take the back-roads home. It died on me at least 6 more times, but I managed to start it back up.
I did some trouble shooting while parked at home, and I would hear the fuel pump prime and it starts fine but died when I put it in gear.
First sign of it dying is that the lights will act funky: reverse light goes out, blinkers start to blink rapidly etc.
The fuel pump would then just barely prime, in stead of hearing a proper "weeeeeeee" noise, it would just go "woop" or nothing at all. Mind you I had 3/4 of a tank left.
What I have checked:

What I have checked:
- Battery is at 12.36V and charges nicely over 14V when running.
- Fuel filter was replaced but it was not clogged.
- All fuses and relays checked with multimeter and no issues, and I even took the relevant fuses and relays out and replaced them with other fuses of same type.
- Inertia switch was not tripped.
- Has enough fluids, but some are slowly leaking out underneath.
- Catalytic converter rattling like a diesel, which is giving me a check engine light. No issues revving, just won't pass a smog test.
- Something to do with the fuel pump, whether it is a bad wire connection or the motor going bad.
- Cam positioning sensor.
