2020 Ranger Intermittently Won't Start
2020 Ranger Intermittently Won't Start
Good morning, I have seen that there's been some known issues with older Rangers not starting but have not seen anything on the 2019-present ones. I have a 2020 Ranger XLT 4x2, and have an intermittent problem with it not starting. I have taken it to 2 dealers and they've had it for a combined 3-4 weeks over the past year and "can't replicate the problem". The battery is fully charged, they found no voltage issues, etc. Anyone here have a similar problem? I have heard that it could be a shifter ribbon switch issue with it not registering it's in park, but the dealer said that would trigger on the computer. Any other thoughts? I am not very car-savvy, hence why it's gone to the dealer so much, but with them never seeing the issue, it's gotten beyond frustrating. Really don't want to get stranded somewhere. I've attached a couple videos of what happens. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum
I can't read what display is saying about the "no start"
Especially in the second video
Can you type what it says, in order i.e. first box, second box, and first video and second video, which looks to be different than first
What about the key fobs batteries?
Besides locking and unlocking the doors it also needs to transmit a code to Anti-theft system or no crank/no start
But usually there is a "low fob battery" message that comes up when starting
Since it does start up I wouldn't think its a car battery issue
Does "Auto start/stop" always work once vehicle is started with the key?
If so then its a for sure sign that the "anti-theft" system is the problem, or Fob or Fob battery
If you have more than one Fob see if the no crank is specific to just one of the fobs
Longshot, if you have more than 1 key/fob make sure both Fobs are not close to the vehicle when starting, this can confuse the anti-theft system, i.e. if one fob is near the driveway in the house it may be close enough to cause confusion
Also why Ford could never duplicate the issue, they only had the one fob, so it always started
