7.75 rear diff swap to 8.8

Quick and possible dumb question. Have a 2001 ford ranger 2.5l RWD 86- 7.5 - 3.73 (28spline) rear differential. Looking to swap in a 1996 ford explorer 4.0l AWD D4- 8.8- 3.73 (31spline). Does it matter that my car isnt AWD and the donor is? Looked through the forum and didnt see anything on this subject.

Welcome to the forum

No, won't matter
The Explorer axle doesn't directly bolt into a Ranger, unless you want to lower the rear by 3" or 4", but judging by your picture that may be what you want
Axle is also an inch wider on each side
