Welcome to the forum

The year matters, so what Year Ranger?
assuming 2.3l or 2.5l

The ABC for a "crank but no start", since the very first gasoline engine, is the 50/50 test
Spray gasoline or Quick start(ether) into the intake manifold
Crank engine
If it starts and then dies you have a fuel delivery issue
If it doesn't start then its a spark, or maybe a compression issue
50/50

The 2.3l/2.5l SOHC engine does use a timing belt and it can break without warning, even when driving, this does NOT hurt the engine, but it would no longer start or run

So try to see if the Cam gear(just in front of valve cover) is turning when you crank the engine, if not then belt is broken

Check timing belt first, make sure cam gear is turning

If so then do 50/50 test

50/50 test checks if crank sensor is working, it checks everything except the timing belt, quick and simple
