Icon12 [Help] I am rebuilding my 2.3 for boost, please help

I am currently the proud owner of a 1993 Ford Ranger, 4x2 short box regular cab. It has a manual 5 speed and a 2.3 Litre engine. It's also gutless as all other. Right now I have 240,000KM on the motor and it's in need of a good rebuild. By talking to some of my mates, these things are really good to feed boost to apparently, but not mine in it's current state. I have heard that the pistons from the older probe are a good place to start swapping as they can handle the boost (being forged and all that). I have the dual plug setup motor, which means four cylinders and 8 plugs. Was definitely a throw for me when I found that out.

Whats a good place to start? Where can I get a good quality rebuild kit to replace everything.. I need all gaskets, seals and the like. Next, where can I get some pistons and rods, maybe even a crank that will fit and be able to handle the boost. Plan to run a T3/T4 turbo with about 20 PSI of boost. I found this EEK447M-1 rebuild kit on Engine Parts Only (a quick google will show the part I mean) and it comes with pistons or larger bore (0.50mm over) but doesn't mention if they can handle boost since that's not a default application.

I have a machine shop to port and deck the heads, make sure there's no warping, and bore my pistons a bit larger but I need YOUR help putting together a list of parts I will need. Help me Obi'wan'ranger-forums. You're my only hope! Haha thanks for reading, will post progress logs as I get some work done. Any and all suggestions are welcome :)

P.S: New user here, let me know if I did anything wrong haha

Welcome to the forum

You have a 2.3l Lima engine, made at Ford's Lima, Ohio engine plant
Also called the Pinto engine, since it was first used in Ford Pinto in 1974
It was made in 3 styles
2.0l, under bored 2.3l block
2.3l, 1974 to 1997
2.5l, stroked 2.3l, 1998-2001

They all used the same block and heads, 2.0l had smaller pistons, 2.5l had different crank and connecting rods.

As far as I know all had forged cranks, so no difference in 2.3l turbos
But turbos did have forged pistons as well, with lower compression ration I think, which N/A models didn't
Turbos also had oil fittings added to the block to cool/lube the turbo

Good read here on the Lima engines: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-guide.317117/
