Frankenstein engine advice
Hey all! Picked up a clean 88 Ranger. Previous owner swapped it to a 2.3l from a 90s mustang but got rid of all the electronics on the engine. Using distributor to only 4 plugs instead of all 8. No crank position sensor. Engine bay harness has been spliced to make things work but there’s almost nothing going to the engine. I got it running but had serious smoking so I pulled the head and it’s cracked.
New head is from a turbo SVO. Has been ported and ranger cam. Swapping my rollers from the old to new head. Everything else I’ve read says it should all fit up. Planning on custom intake with new Holley 2bbl 500cfm I just ordered. Stock exhaust for now. Already put in new radiator with electric fan.
My real question is with the cams. Which would be better, the ranger cam currently in the turbo head, or the mustang cam from the old 8 plug?
I’m also doing an inframe to change piston rings since there’s a bit of piston wobble. Cheaped out a little and didn’t order rods or main bearings and crossing my fingers they’re decent enough to run for a bit till I do a full rebuild
