Fuel Pump Driver Module 2001 Duratec

Folks,

I have a 2001 with a 2.3l Duratec. Where is the fuel pump driver module (FPDM) located? Has anyone heard of them failing in this vehicle (assuming that it has one). If it doesn't have one, how is the fuel rail pressure controlled?

Regards,

Dura

If your vehicle has one it will be back behind fuel tank by spare tire, with EVAP canister

Rangers didn't usually have these, 1998 and up used Returnless system so the computer would cycle fuel pump power for demand to maintain above 50psi, 60psi was Spec
Computer knows exactly how much fuel it is using and how much pressure a running pump provides, so way simple math, compared to air/fuel calculations on the fly, lol
There was no fuel pressure sensor

Go here: Official Ford Parts Site | Buy Motorcraft & OEM Ford Parts Online | FordParts.com

Put in your VIN

See if driver module is listed

I didn't see it listed for 2001 or 2002 Ranger 2.3l

2001 was a transition year for Ranger 4cyl engines
First half year had the 2.5l SOHC Lima engine used since 1998
Second half of year got the new 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine

So 2001 4cyl engine parts for Ford Ranger can get confusing, thats why VIN can be helpful in this case

2002 was first full model year with 2.3l Duratec

FYI, 1997 and older Rangers used Return style fuel system so did have a mechanical Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) on the engine, spring loaded valve that was pushed open at about 40psi to let fuel out to flow back to fuel tank, Return line.
So fuel pressure stayed between 30-40psi, pump ran full time when engine was running
