Help with replacing electric thermostat
Help with replacing electric thermostat
In another thread I posted about my sad story of overheating my 2002 Ranger with a 2.3 engine due to a coolant leak. I fixed the leak but then had a problem with the thermostat not opening and again overheating the engine. After installing two of the electric thermostats, both of which didn't work, I installed a later model thermostat (2004-5) that was identical save for the electric heater. The truck seems to be running fine now, but to keep the check engine light from coming on I've left the old thermostat hanging with the wire attached to it. I'd like to get rid of it. I'm told a resister of a certain value placed across the leads of the wires going to the electric heater will fool the CPU into think the heater is attached and working. Is this true and, if so, what value resister needs to be installed?
Thanks,
Jon
