My cams or something is loud . engine idles smooth but just loud annoying ticking. is there an additive that works to quiet it down? my lil bro is taking my truck to fort riley for a couple months and i want it to be in tip top shape before he goes.

Really shouldn't be loud - my 2.3 ('08) is real quiet and has always been quiet, unless I'm going deaf.

What oil and filter are you using?

I know Motorcraft states that oil filters should have the same design as the Motorcraft filter, or excess noise could occur...so good choice on the filter. Some filters I've seen look nothing like the Motorcraft filter internally. I've thought about trying the (thinner) pure synthetic Lucas oil additive sometime, but didn't really know if it would be necessary.

One thing you could do, if you don't have one already, is a hood mat. Will help dampen a decent amount of engine noise.

try running some heavier oil in it that usually quiets stuff down

Lucas is a good product and will quiet the engine a lot, since you're using a thin 5w20 weight oil. Are your belts noisy?

It's just gonna be loud. My 09 4.0L has the clicking sound too that Is probably just the injectors.

I would suggest a better hood mat or some other sound deadening on the hood. Is your 4 banger used on anything else? If so, does the other vehicle utilize an engine cover? I'd try an adapt that to your engine if one is available. That should kill noise as well.

you could try sound dampning on the firewall, floors and hood

Accumat makes products for all three or checkout other brands for the same stuff

I have used Accumat products before on an older ranger, they work as claimed

You are probably hearing the injectors. They sound like you are clicking a pen on and off very quickly.

^^PERFECT description!! Pen clicking really fast is perfect way to describe the sound of injectors.

If a 2.3L Ford is loud to you, you better be getting earplugs....
