How to replace clutch cancel switch
hi all
ive got a 2008 2.3L manual trans 2WD with a weird issue: when I’m coasting to a stop at N.O.T. my RPMs drop to 500 for a few seconds then surge back up to about 750 about half to 3/4 of the time. 750 is where it idles normally/steadily, and the engine runs smooth and strong with what seems to be good power and acceleration otherwise. Sometimes it seems to start a bit hard, but just a bit, and the RPMs drop/fluctuate less if I wait until about 1000 RPM to push the clutch in. I’ve changed spark plugs and wires, air filter, MAP sensor, and cleaned the MAF sensor and IAC valve. After a lot of research and noodling (it’s a long story I can get into if you want; see my previous post) I think the clutch cancel switch may be the problem. Anyone have any advice on how to change it? It looks like it could be kinda tricky. Amazon sells one with the arm that attaches to the pedal so I figured there must be a way to swap it out but I don’t wanna wind up opening a can of worms and be stuck without a vehicle. I’m an amateur/backyard mechanic at best so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Clutch switch is not hard to change
It is on the push rod for the clutch pedal in the cab
Unplug the wires
Squeeze the end of plastic retainer clip on the top of switch slide it up/toward the pedal
It is a slide and lock type so should pop up and off
Pull switch down, it may be held by clip on master, pull clip down and slide switch toward pedal

According to your other thread, you pressure washed your engine and this problem began. I'd be looking at what you got wet that you shouldn't have.
The Clutch switch only keeps you from starting the vehicle without pressing the clutch, and to cancel cruise control, it has nothing to do with idle.
As far as I know Ford Rangers don't have a "Clutch Cancel" switch, they do have a "Clutch Starter" switch that keeps you from starting the vehicle without pressing the clutch.
