Does anyone know where I can find information about all the different fuel-injected 4cyls. that have been offered in Rangers? Info for the transmissions would be great too. I'd like to know HP/Tq. numbers, but also things like size, weight, length, height, etc. Even an estimated cost from a junkyard or something would be great! I'm researching possible engine swaps. Thanks!

 

Just get the 1.6 sidekick motor

 

Those are way pricey though... I could likely get more power for less money from a Ranger 4cyl. because really... who buys them? A 1.6L 16V would probably be as much work, and they go for ~$1000, and that doesn't even cover a transmission.

 

Alot of people swap the 4.3's out of the s-10's but I dont know much about that swap

 

I've got a nice 2.5 ready to be built-up in my garage, minus one rod bearing! I'd be more than happy to help you swap that in for the famous Ford 2500 motor job!

 

About how much would it cost me in parts/special tools/etc. to get that engine running? Is the block/heads in good shape? About how much does the engine weigh? Do you have the tranny and all the wiring/ECU to go with it? Is it a pretty simple engine that I could rebuild it by myself without any prior experience doing so?

About how long is it with the transmission attached?

 

It would only cost about $200 for a rebuild kit, which would cover everything you need to get it running. The heads and block are all in good shape. It's got a full set of brand new gaskets on the whole top end. The only special tools you would need are whatever is required to check tolerances, like a dial indicator.

I would suspect the engine weighs around 700 pounds. The transmission is a little lighter, at a manageable 250 pounds, but I have no way to measure them. Combined together, it's a little over 5 feet long. The motor is about 2', the tranny about 3'.

All of the PCM, wiring, harnesses, and connectors are intact, clean, and labeled with my own masking tape labels.

I also have all of the accessories and everything else to make it a complete running motor.

I had no way to estimate that weight. I just figured it was that heavy based on the way it felt while it was hoisted into the air. I guess around 400 pounds sound more reasonable!

 

Hmmmmmmmm I guess I'll have to keep looking to see what other kind of information I could find. If you were going to sell the motor/tranny, how much would you want for them?
