Ive searched the net and cant find any info other than Ford made the new 2.3l all aluminum and gave it DOHC 16v head.
Ive got a complete turbo setup for the old cast iron 2.3l including the stainless steel header, but I dont know if it will fit the bolt pattern on the new 16v head. Im not worried so much about interference issues with the AC or fenders since I can fabb those things if I need to.
Is it true that the 16v motor Rangers have Mass Air systems instead of speed density, is this true?
Also what kind of pistons came with the new 2.3l? forged, cast, and will the internal parts interchange {crank, rods, ect.}. thanks, Mike U>

 

i think it should bolt right up
i dont think they put forged internals in none turbo apps. so i gouess the cast and the parts should interchange they even interchange with the 2.5L and yes it has a mass air

 

NO, the DOHC 2.3L is COMPLETELY different than the old Lima 2.3L and 2.5L engines. The exhaust manifold will not bolt to it, non of the pistons and internals will interchange between the DOHC and Lima either. The Ranger went to a mass air system right around '91 and continues to use it till this day. They do make forged internals and all sorts of parts for the new DOHC engine however seeing as it shares a lot of its parts and designs with the engines in the focus you just have to know exactly what you need and are looking for.

 

kind of a left field question here. What kind of Bolt on head fits a 2.3 lima for better results?
