Oil pump question

99 ranger 2.5L, ran perfect, changed the oil pump for a new one that I got cheap online (35 bucks) was trying to dodge the 268 dollar pumps from the auto store.

installed correctly, truck starts fot 2 sec and dies then dosent start.....

Did ford do anything specific to the oil pump in relaton to the cam sensor? I've see metal on the parts where it mounts to the pump.

Any info helps thank you.

Welcome to the forum

No, no relation between oil pump to a No start or stalling

Cam sensor problem won't cause a no start

Crank sensor can

Reads like your running out of gas
Assuming there is gas in the tank, have to ask
The fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds when you first turn the key on, and it won;t run again until engine starts

You can turn the key off and on a few times to build up fuel pressure then try to start it

If you took off the timing belt then you do need to time the engine again, which includes the Cam Gear, AUX gear(oil pump gear) and Crank gear

Aye, she's timed correct, triangles and diamonds lined up on tdc crank. Did the fuel pressure trick when i put it in same results. Tank is full, crank sensor was replaced at rebuild, and if it failed it wouldn't start for that initial 2 seconds and then just shut off.

Put the old pump back in and it starts right up, new pump nothing. Let me send the link to the site where the pump is from. (If this isn't allowed just edit me, thx)

It's a long shot but is there ANY possible difference between this and the OEM pumps??

Well, the problems been solved.

For anyone else who may have this issue, the oil pump and the cam sensor somehow work together, when buying a replacement oil pump for the 2.5L don't cheap out or it'll cost ya.
