Problems Replacing Starter

I have removed three bolts from the starter (from underneath the truck). The manual states there are 4 bolts. I cannot locate the fourth. Can anyone help?

Hmm.. the only "4th" bolt I can think of would be the one connecting the positive wire to the starter.. remove those three bolts, give it a good tug - but make sure you sure as heck have two hands on it.. they arent very forgiving when they suddenly pop out and ~20 pounds comes crashing down

You are correct! Although the manual stated 4 bolts, there are truly only three. I did get it out exactly how you suggested. Now to get the new one in. Thank you for your reply.

Not a problem in the least! I was honestly very surprised no one had piped in sooner.. it was already a good 6 hours after that I hopped in and took a peek.

Just changed out the starter in my '88 ranger.. the only time a starter doesnt have 3 bolts connecting it to the block is on a FWD car.. now those are a pain to change :-S
