Stop Oil Leak Additive

Stop Oil Leak Additive
My beater truck has a slight oil leak at the rear main, leaks about a quart a month using the synthetic blend oil. Can anyone recommend a good stop leak additive that will stop or atleast slow it down. I know I could switch to regular oil and that would slow it some but since its a old truck I rather use the better oil.

The best oil additive would be a new rear main seal. A quart a month is quite a bit of oil to be leaking. You can try an additive but they are rarely a good idea. It would be much better to fix the real problem. I don't think changing to regular dino oil would really help much, but a thicker oil may slow down the leak.

couldn't have said it better.
nothing you "pour" in is going to help.

Depends on what you mean by "help" - had a buddy with a 1982 corvette leaking oil at front crank seal bad enough that you could actually watch the oil puddle grow while the engine was running. I told him it would be a waste to add stop leak, but the leak actually started to slow down just a few minutes after the stop leak was added.
This is what we used:
...and the Justice Brother's Oil Stop Leak Part No. ESL/44
is the only one I've used that actually worked.

I've never seen an oil stop leak that worked like a radiator stop leak. You're not stopping the leak with a paste or pellets, but with a seal conditioner. I could see where sludge might be a problem in a really dirty engine, but that just means that the engine has a lot more problems besides leaky seals.

just remember that oil flows down and back. switching between synthetic and regular oil does nothing, it is cheaper though. best thing to do is replace the seal. no matter what anyone says about a stop leak product they are just a cover up and usually cause more problems. just replace it and be on with life. and it looks like your oil pan was also leaking or the valve covers were

Just to clarify in case some didn't quite understand: If you're selling, dumping, trading, tired of spending money on the vehicle, have better things to do, think it's ready for the junk yard before too long...use some good stop leak, or perhaps do nothing at all - If you're the type that always wants to keep your vehicle properly maintained/repaired by always doing it "right the first time" and don't mind spending the money to do it right...by all means replace the seal, replace any other worn parts you find while you're doing the repair, maybe even consider doing an entire engine swap if you think it would be for the best.
I took the following into consideration when I first gave a reply:
"My beater truck has a slight oil leak at the rear main, leaks about a quart a month using the synthetic blend oil. Can anyone recommend a good stop leak additive that will stop or atleast slow it down"
Sorry if I inappropriately answered the question.
